National Junior Honor Society (NJHS)

The National Junior Honor Society is for 7th and 8th grade students who have maintained a 3.75 GPA and have been on the Honor Roll for each of the past 5 grading periods. To have maintained a 3.75 GPA is in itself quite a noteworthy accomplishment.

Students who qualify will be sent an invitation to apply for membership in NJHS in late December. If they choose to complete the application and are accepted into the NJHS, they will have the opportunity to develop skills in the area of service, leadership and character while receiving additional support as they strive to continue on the path of academic excellence at Schmucker Middle School.

As a member of NJHS, students will be expected to attend mandatory meetings the first Friday of each month.  The meetings are held before school from 8:15-8:50.  We discuss service ideas, plan activities, and have time for guest speakers to present information relevant to the academic and leadership interests of the group. In NJHS we do many activities outside of the school day as well. We expect that our NJHS members are willing and excited to plan events in the community. This may include evening and weekend hours. There are yearly dues of $20 to help fund the service projects we do.
