John Gutierrez, a 6th grader at Schmucker Middle School, participated in the Northern Indiana Regional Science and Engineering Fair (NIRSEF) in February, and was selected to participate in the state Hoosier Science and Engineering Fair (HSEF) in April.
John's project, "Battery vs Solar: Speed Race" earned several distinguished awards at NIRSEF:
a first place ribbon, the "Broadcom MASTERS Rising Stars Competition Junior" award, "Building a Brighter Tomorrow Junior Award" and the "Notre Dame Energy Top Junior Energy Related Award."
At HSEF, John was additionally recognized with the "Lemelson Early Inventor Award."
