"Life Coach"

Ryan Humphrey with an 8th grader

As part of Ms. Katie Deitrich’s Careers class got a “life lesson” from University of Notre Dame Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach Ryan Humphrey. The week of October 15, the class was focusing on Sports Careers. As a player at Notre Dame, Humphrey played for Head Coach Mike Brey from 2000-2002. He was a Round 1 NBA draft pick going to the Utah Jazz in 2002.

Coach Humphrey explained all aspects of his job to students including how he prepares scouting reports weeks before each game. He then gave students the opportunity to ask questions that they researched beforehand. Coach Humphrey called on students by passing them the ball. Students asked about everything from his student-athlete career at ND to playing in the NBA and facing all-time great Michael Jordan in a game. After the 30+ minute Q&A, he took a group picture with the class and then signed autograph posters.
